I took this post down yesterday to see if it was legal.

They say it is o.k. to paint at the museum and copy as long as you say it is a copy. On the back it says's a copy. So I am saying also here that it is a copy.Of course I think that is evident as it is a watercolor on new paper. This is named landscape with a horse.

lucky cat: art corner stories

Lucky Cat
My neighbor had a cat who was a mighty hunter, Lucky was his name.

From my sun porch you could see him stalking birds and quick enough to catch them too.

Lucky loved his beautiful blond haired master. At her door he left his bounty, birds, rabbits, squirrels, and Ectra. Lovingly providing for the lovely lady.

In his youth his master was moving and left him with her sister. Lucky was saddened He meowed and meowed to sis crying for his master. He would leave and travel for across busy highways and long business blocks teaming with cars and people searching for his master finally returning to the home he had last saw her at. Sis would go over hunting for him but he was uneasy and cry ed to her in complaint. Where is my master?
His master moved across the street from my house when she returned and picked up lucky to be with her, Living there with her mother who loved lucky also.

But Lucky's beautiful little master liked to visit her many friends and would leave the lonely cat. He would visit the neighbors and me, crying inconsolably to us over his master. Not knowing how to find her.

In our yard we had a boat under cover and that is where Lucky kept his kill. ( We found out come spring) Rabbits, Birds, their feathers and bones, fur. was all that was left.

A Day In The Sun:

One winter day I was laying on a day bed on my sun porch and Lucky appeared on my ledge wanting in. I let him in and he climbed on the bed with me and we enjoyed a peaceful wonderful nap together.
When we awoke he wanted out.
Independently,
leaving without looking back.

But his master decided to move from her mothers to a friends farm and took lucky with her. We were very sad her mother and me both wanted to keep this little hunter.
But to no use, we weren't able to prevail.

His master left the farm and him, and us.

Last night setting on my sun porch I saw Lucky cat at his old home, he had came from the country home many, many, miles away, to his old home.
I ran out calling him but he only acknowledged me
with a long jeweled eyed look,
eyes glowing,
as he disappeared forever into the shadows.
Looking for his beautiful little blond master.

Art Corner Stories, Seven Crossings, a ficitional story

THE SUPER INN

Seven Crossings

chapter 1

1886 A hansom middle aged man lets himself off in the Howell yards. The train station is busy with people each moving around with ease in the early morning.

Over in the corner there was a barrow with a checker board on it and a coal stove.

Charles moved over to a chair by the stove and rested gazing at the people and thinking about what a pleasant little town this Howell.

Looking out the other window to the North West their was a street with a tavern and restaurant. The street looked a little too lively for peaceful quiet Charles was looking for.

He still had some money he had earned while working in his family’s neighborhood. His father being a rich banker could not tolerate his artistic love of wood carving thinking back he felt he would be free of this emotional weight and feeling more and more that he had done the right thing for him.

Running his hand over the wood on the chair he could feel the grain in the oak and enjoyed just feeling wood. Looking at the honey color.

The sky was gray here and the trees dark black at the trunk. Looking much like a French charko drawing. Very beautiful he thought. Very beautiful. The trees are so thick the hills around the valley impressive. He could see the city Evansville in the distance on the curve in the river. They were also busy there with river boats.

Toward the south you could see a river across the tracks and through the trees.

The Dutch gentleman was warmly dressed in gray goat spun yarn knickers with a jacket and a green shirt with satchel at his side filled with all his worldly possessions an a few gold pieces.

With a wooden box filled with templates and wood carving tools.

Walking down the front street of the little community feeling like he had finally founded the place for himself

There was an inn there on the corner of Front Street but he decided to go on to the inn. Called, the super.

Walking around the back where the wagons were hitched and water was in the trough.

He entered through the side door. Oh they served beer. Made of the finest corn hops around. Being Dutch Charles could well appreciate a cold beer.

Speaking with the owner who was behind the bar Charles asks if he could find a room as he had traveled a long way from New York and was very tired. Yes we have a room.

Mary will prepare your room for you.

Chapter 2

Fire and Ice

While Jim, who rides the rails a lot, was in Canada he had occasion to watch the new sport Ice Hockey. He loved it!

Contacting some friends from Franklin Street. He came up with the money for 10 hockey sticks and 10 sets of skates. Large. They can stick a sock in the toe if they are too big he figured.

Coming home with the rules and anxious to group for the fun first good freeze.

Well west sider’s already loved to ice skate for fun and planed a skate party every good freeze.

So the logs were stacked in piles around the pond behind the super Inn. Being a large but shallow pond their was no danger of drowning if the ice cracked.

Charles who had expected to sleep late and rest from his long trip from Amsterdam stirred the smell from the kitchen drifted up. Coffee, bacon, biscuits, sausage. All blending together.

Their sure was a lot of noise for Saturday. Looking out toward west from the window in his room Charles was impressed with the large ice pond sparkling in the sunny but cold air.

He noticed the piles of wood neatly stacked around the pond and ready. So early in the morning their were wagons coming down Broadway. Everyone on the way to town. Charles guessed. Franklin Street was always very busy all day Saturday.

A couple young boys were running and sliding as far as they could on the ice with their dog sliding and falling with them.

Down stairs everyone was in good spirits and some already having a drink.

Spotting Charles Mary smiled waved him over to the best table. Ready for breakfast she asks. Yes, I’ll take the house special answered Charlie.

Part of the Hockey teem was already drinking at the bar. Jim had rounded them up. We have our five he said.

Me, Mike, Bob, Ronald, and you Red. We’ve all studied the rules. I’m ready, red said. So were going to have our game a 2: pm.

Everyone chimed in yea!

After the game they had planed open skate. Skating was a big thing in Howell.

Charles smiled, thourly enjoying the idea of watching a Ice Hockey Game. Thinking Amsterdam, a place skating was loved. Would like this new game from Canada. They claim it started in Nova Sosa.

Charles thought I’m glad I have these nice woolly clothes, long underwear and thick sox.

Sipping his coffee and enjoying watching Mary serving the customers with her sandy red hair glinting gold in the light coming through the glass. A small woman wearing skirts and petty coats like the women of the time wore, and a crisp white blouse. She very quickly served everyone to perfection.

Charles thought she got me at first smile. Made his decision she was the one for him. He had all but given up on the thought of marriage as all his friends had already married long ago and he was a lone bachelor. Now he knew why. He hadn’t met Mary yet.

Mary was so beautiful it was hard to believe she was still single at twenty years old. She had just left servitude at her uncle’s

Washington Indiana farm and moved into the city to start making her way. It was hard to get consent to leave the farm but at last her uncle gave her freedom.

Mary lost her parents to the flu that killed so many; her uncle Tucker took her to work on his farm. And earn her keep.

A large lady came in ahead of her husband. Huffing and puffing because of her extra size. Mary thought how many petty coats does she have on? A lot I hope. I hate to think that’s all her.

Hi Ellie. Are you in town to buy yard goods? Ask Mary? Yes Ellie said I heard they have a new shipment of beautiful prints.

Mary said yes. I bought the material for my skirt last week. Mary said. I thought I would skate tonight. They had some skates here I can use at the Inn.

I like that sash with the skirt, Ellie stated. You sew very well.

The owner of the Inn was called Supper. This is what everyone called him. He didn’t seem to need a first or middle name. Was a well respected man in Howell? Mary felt very happy to have secured employment at the warn and friendly Inn and got to meet so many new people coming through on the train.

This Charles, she thought so different from her stern, tyrannical uncle, she glanced a t Charles interested in him such a pleasant, friendly fellow with auburn hair green eyes and quick wit.

Meanwhile everyone was getting acquainted with Charlie. Was he staying in Howell someone ask? Yes. I think so; answered Charles. I’ll room here at the inn until I decide what to do. Supper said, we will keep your room for you as long as you like.

Ellie flounced her skirt up showing at least seven petty coats. And ask her husband Harold to fetch her hand bag from the buggy. She wanted to fresh her face.

Mary glanced at Charles and crooked her little finger like she was drinking tea with the queen. And said “ Well Percy pass the pickles. Charles chuckled.

Super was going down to the pond for the Hockey game at 2pm. Everyone was excited work had got around as this farm community always spent Saturday talking and visiting around Franklin St. and at Super are the L&N Restaurant on Front street.

Front Street crossed Broadway and turned into Barker Avenue the pond was between Broadway and Barker behind the Inn.

Supper said; there are extra skates hanging on the coat rack if you would like to skate after the game Charles. Yes I would like that; Charles happily agreed.

Walking down to the pond everyone started gathering around the piles of wood Supper started lighting the fires so everyone could warm themselves. There were conveniently placed benches.

The opposing team showed up. Bounding from the wagon all wearing a red sock hat to identify their teem.

Let’s go!

They seemed so confident. Jim was taken back. He said; who’s the captain. A tall logger called Blacky stepped up and the coin was flipped. They won. Blacky's brother said he would referee he had also had studied the rules.

He blew his whistle and it was on.

All the men being good skaters were still awkward with the hockey sticks but catching on quick. The cold air and the hot blood making for a adrenalin rush in all players the puck sliding over the ice faster than the eye could see. It took natural instinct to be able to catch it but strike it they did. The chosen goalies were read hat team Big Al and Bob from Jim’s team. They were both doing too good a job and fifteen minutes into the game still no points.

The men on Blacky's teem were well known and had many spectators excited and cheering them on while Jim and his team were regulars at Supper Inn Enjoying much support from the crowd also.

Finally Red hit the puck square and it skimmed the ice faster that the hockey sticks and the men who’s skates had taken to wing like the feet on the mythical god mercury.

The score energized the red hat’s they had increased zeal to fight to keep the puck and send it home to score also and score they did 1 to 1.

Time out! Someone yelled no one who, but they all agreed.

Jim perplexed, said; “Boys were not going to win this way_ we need a better strategy. The red hats are better than we thought so we need to regroup. Mike you are the best with the hockey stick. You keep the puck all the time you can passing off to Bob only when necessary. Bob, keep in view of Mike all the time. The rest of us will keep the red hats busy. Catch first opening. Do the rest of you guys get the drift. Got it!!! They all answered. Everyone was energized and ready to play hockey. The rest of the game went well and they won 3 to 1 at victory.

Joining the folk at the fires the women brought out picnic baskets they had much country food. Everyone was very hungry.
